Brent Wood

Biography
Brent Wood started his photographic career in 1978 as the chief photographer and studio manager for O'Connor Photography located in Santa Barbara California.

In 1982 he changed his focus from studio portraiture to industrial photography. From 1982 to 1993 he was the Photo Department manager for General Dynamics Air Systems Division located in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

He traveled to many distant locations to photograph for General Dynamics, the Army and the Navy. Hundreds of hours were spent in helicopters photographing ships and missile testing in Puerto Rico.

1993 brought him to NASA located at Edwards Air Force Base. Brent was the Photo Department site manager. The main photographic duties included photographing the space shuttle as it lands and producing thousands of engineering photographs after landing, photographing cutting edge aircraft during design, testing and flight testing. The job took him to many NASA facilities and areas around the country.

While at NASA Brent started teaching photography part-time for Chaffey Community College. He also began part-time teaching for Victorville College.

Brent is currently teaching photography full time as the Art Department Chair for Victorville College. He teaches a digital/wet commercial/art certificate.

His personal photography involves black and white large format portraiture, large format black and white scenic photography and pinhole photography. He has been involved with photography since the age of 13.

QUESTION:

Hi again! When competing at the state level (or higher) I am finding that framing of photographs is required. One company told me to go with a color frame. Another told me to only use black framing in such competitions. Do you think it matters? Leia

Dear Leia, The frame is certainly an individual choice; however competitions generally use black frames with white mats. This is especially true with black and white images. Colored mats and frames generally take the eye away from the center of in...full answer
