Trinidad and Cienfuegos 2014

This year Steve Ancell is offering three, count 'em – three, unique opportunities for you to travel to Cuba, either for the first time or for to revisit.

• Cienfuegos & Trinidad, December 14 to 20: for those who want to see another side of Cuba.
• Havana & Vinales, December 20 to 27: for those going for the first time.
• Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Havana, Vinales: for those who want an extended stay.

This is the only photo tour of Cuba that will not drag you around to the Minister of Culture or Agriculture to hear a three-hour lecture on the glorious revolution or the political art created by Cuban painters (you can go there on your own if you really want to hear the canned talk).

Many participants have requested a tour that would include an overnight stay outside Havana. This year Steve Anchell will be offering a special three-day excursion to the port city of Cienfuegos and the colonial town of Trinidad.

Cienfuegos is known as La Perla del Sur (the Southern Pearl). Founded in 1819 by the French, Cienfuegos is a calm and inviting port town. It is also where the legendary Cuban musician, Beny Moré, is from. We will spend the night for a glimpse into life in a not-so-touristy town.

Trinidad is one of the finest colonial towns in the Americas with cobblestone streets, pastel-colored 18th and 19th-century houses, palaces, and plazas. Magically frozen in time the city has streets that are more populated by horse-drawn carts than automobile traffic. Old folks still crouch by windows with elegant wrought-iron grilles, to peer out at passerby.

This year we will spend most of our time in Havana with a special day trip to the tobacco-growing region of Vinales. During out visit you will learn and practice my technique of street photography as well as work with Cuban photographers. We will visit a variety of sites that are not on the beaten track which may include Regala, Casablanca, Guanabacoa, Mercado Quarto Camino, Calle Hamel, playa del oeste – and perhaps a few on the tourist beat, Hemingway House, Ambos Mundos Hotel, El Floridita, and the Necropolis.

Mid-visit we will take a fabulous one day tour of the Vinales tobacco region east of Havana.

If you want to see and do it all, join me in Havana. We'll travel first to Cienfuegos, then Trinidad. We'll return to Havana where you'll have a free day before the second group arrives. If this is your first time to Cuba you can hang with the gang. If you've been with me on a previous trip you may hang with the gang or create your own itinerary.
