Gene Nocon's stunning unique images provide totally different and provocative answers to the question of "What is Photography"!

The former chairman of the Royal Photographic Society and personal photographer to Prince Andrew, Mr. Nocon vigorously defends his idea that it is all photography and that distinctions between digital and traditional are not ultimately useful. As examples, Gene will use his own body of work uniquely called "fauxtographs".

Elizabeth Opalenik "A Self Potrait"
Exhibition open to the public October 14 - December 12, 2005
On Friday, October 14, 2005, Freestyle presents a show by the internationally acclaimed photographer Elizabeth Opalenik. The diverse images in this show draw an intimate portrait of the life of this brilliant artist.

Believing that all good photographs are self-portraits that lie somewhere between imagination and memory, Ms. Opalenik explores the landscape of her childhood through three distinct, yet connected journeys. In the serene yet powerful black and white images of "A Journey Home," the artist recovers early childhood memories of life lived near the Amish, who allowed her to visit and find solace during the days of her mother's passing. Her childhood spent on a Pennsylvania farm is further reflected in "A Dance with the Matador." A twenty-year collection of handpainted black and white images of the bullfight expresses Ms. Opalenik's earliest days on the farm where animals were lovingly raised, killed and eaten. Her dynamic images portray the beauty of this conflicted relationship between animal and man.

The third phase, "Poetry in Motion," gives vivid expression to childhood dreams of becoming a dancer. Creating these images of an Italian dance company allowed the artist to live her earliest dreams of the next dance.
