Biography

Pat and Rosemarie Keough are internationally acclaimed photographers, authors, and publishers. The most ambitious of their projects is the 27-pound, hand-crafted tome entitled ANTARCTICA: Explorer Series, Volume One. Gene Shalit pointed out on the Today Show that "ANTARCTICA is not a book. It's a work of art, a monument, the apogee of grandeur." This fact is acknowledged by Rare Book and Special Collections Curators from America to Australia, Japan to the UK, and by collectors from 17 countries including Royalty, individuals, libraries and institutes. To date the Keoughs have received 21 prestigious awards for ANTARCTICA - Nature Photographer of the Year, World's Best Photography Book, the Cherry Kearton Medal, the Gold Ink Award, the Benjamin Franklin Award, the Best Book Arts Craftsmanship to list a few.

Self-taught artists, the Keoughs' images have appeared in Time, Forbes, Smithsonian, Departures, Camera Arts, Outdoor Photographer, and several European periodicals. Pat and Rosemarie are Fellows of The Explorers Club, and when they are not on a photo shoot, they are at their studio in British Columbia, Canada.

QUESTION:

Hi Rosemarie. I saw your wonderful book at Freestyle. Amazingly Beautiful!! What images! What art! Over the past 4 years I've shot digital and am now getting into film. I know it's opposite of what most are doing, nevertheless, I love the look of film. The quality of your photos inspire not only on an artistic level but an aesthetic one as well. The tones and colors in the images are fabulous. As I am fairly new to film and am looking to settle in with one or two types, I would love to know your film choice and lens make. I know they are only tools, however, important tools they are. In asking this, I understand completely an image is only as good as you make it. Again, your work has inspired me greatly! Thanks very much. Bob S.

PAT AND ROSEMARIE'S ANSWER:

Hello Bob I'm really glad you had the chance to see and experience ANTARCTICA. Thanks so very much for your kind words and for sharing your observations about our photography. You certainly are the first photographer to come to our attention, ...full answer
