For most of his life, Gordon Hutchings has had a camera in his hands. At age 8, he purchased his first camera with 50 cents and some cereal box tops. The non-stop experience of
taking pictures has granted him the distinction of master printer and expert large format photographer. Further continuing his education, in 1978, he began a focused attempt to
learn and master the everelusive technique called Pyro. Mr. Hutchings' "little" endeavor in experimentation evolved into a 10-year research project which led to the resurrection
of the use of Pyro and the authorship of: The Book of Pyro. Now in its fourth printing, it is widely known as the go-to reference guide for developing film using Pyro. During
the opening of this exhibition, Mr. Hutchings will be on hand to provide a unique insight into his individual works; and into the World of Pyro.
Gordon Hutchings has taught workshops for Maine Photographic Workshops, Ansel Adams Workshops, Morley Baer Workshops and has also taught several courses at the University of
California, Santa Barbara and the University of California, Sacramento. Mr. Hutchings has been in numerous exhibitions, both solo and group, and is represented in several permanent
collections. His images and articles have been published in many photographic magazines all over the world.
