Biography

Dirk Fletcher has been creating corporate and architectural images professionally for over twenty years. His personal work loosely centers on transportation, the built environment and the irony of everyday events.

In 2004, Dirk became the Department Chairman of the Photography Programs at Harrington College of Design, where he was hired to create the first pure digital photography program in Chicago.

In 2008, Dirk was awarded the grand prize for his portfolio 'Six Days in Rizhao' in the international Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA) faculty competition.

Prior to Harrington, Dirk was the sole photographer at the Museum of Science and Industry. He served on the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the ASMP Board for 8 years, was the Local Committee Chairman for the 50th Society of Photographic Educators (SPE) Annual Conference and is currently serving his second term as the President of Filter Photo Festival's Board of Directors.

In 2010 he published his first book, Digital Photography Lighting for Dummies, which is widely available. He regularly lectures on photography and leads lighting workshops. He holds a Bachelor's from Brooks Institute and a Master of Fine Arts from Governors State University.
